Mornings can go different ways for different types of people. Some people use their mornings to prepare for their day in a calm, organized manner, while others run around similar to a chicken with their head cut off with barely just enough time to make it out the door. If you have children, this really makes things much harder. However, there are ways you can squeeze at least one of these routines into your morning habit.
As I grow more into the act of adulting, I am learning that mornings can be whatever I choose for them to be. They can be distracting such as when I play on my phone and waste precious time. They can be productive, such as when I plan my priorities for my day, or they can be hectic where I have so many things to do that I don’t have time to even eat breakfast.
I decided to compile a short list of 5 ways the self-discovering millennial can choose to spend their mornings in order to get the most out of their days:
1. Journal-Believe it or not, you do have the time for the things you want, you just have to learn to work them into your schedule. Journaling in the morning helps you let out your feelings and can be a stream of consciousness flowing out of you onto paper. I recently journaled the other day before heading to my job and I felt amazing going to work just knowing I was able to release some of the thoughts in my head. Sometimes it’s good to just get the thoughts out of your mind that have been stuck in there overnight.
2.Stretch-As soon as you get out of the shower instead of playing on your phone take time to stretch. This helps loosen your muscles and relax your joints. Stretching feels amazing btw!
3. Set 3 Priorities for the Day– Get out your pen and paper and write down 3 things you need to get accomplished that day. They can be anything from doing laundry to working on a page in your novel. Just be sure to set an intention for the day rather than just going through the motions.
4. Meditate– Meditate for 10 minutes using the Insight Timer app. My favorite morning meditation of all time is the 10 minute meditation with Jonathan Lehman and a close second is Mindful Listening Meditation with Manoj Dias.
5. Listen to an uplifting Podcast– Every morning I listen to a podcast that uplifts my spirit and keeps me motivated for achieving my goals. If you’d like to check out some of my favorite podcasts click here.
